Yay! You're coming in for a colonic hydrotherapy session. There is no intense protocol to prepare but here are some tips to get ready so that your session is smooth and successful as possible! 3 Days Prior: I recommend going easy on gluten, dairy, processed food and/or anything else that you know irritates your digestive system and causes bloating and gas. If you don't know what that might be for you, not a problem! Hey, that's one of the things I can help sort out as we work together. Day of Appointment: It's best not to eat for at least a couple of hours beforehand. Go for light and digestible choices if you have a meal earlier in the day. Hydrate yourself properly, but plan to avoid drinking lot of liquid for a couple of hours before you come in. Full bladders are no fun during a colonic! Don't worry, you have your own bathroom at Vessel and will get to pee right beforehand. That being said, I do have soothing herbal tea and pure water available. Unless you get wicked headaches from abstaining for a few hours, try to avoid caffeine before your appointment. After Appointment: Most often folks report feeling great! Though if you feel rumbly or achy in your tummy later on, a slow clockwise self-massage and deep exhalations can help things settle. My fave? Grab a castor oil roll-on from the Vessel boutique and a heat source (pad, bottle, etc) at home to enjoy a (way less messy version) of a self-care classic: the castor oil pack. If you feel queasy or nauseated, inhaling some peppermint essential oil may help clear that. Drink plenty of water, and eat foods that feel nourishing to you and are on the lighter, healthier side. Take it easy! You probably won't need the day off but some extra time to meditate or rest can be helpful. Colonic hydrotherapy cleanses the energetic body as much as the physical so there may be some emotional releases that need some space and grace. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: How many sessions do I need? A: We can feel that out together. The general recommendation is to plan for three in an "intro series" about a week to 10 days apart for best results. From there, seasonal maintenance (a.k.a. every three months) throughout the year is a highly beneficial routine. Before and after travel can also be soothing and regulating. If your are fasting or cleansing, the extra elimination support strategically placed therein can be a game-changer. For those working on certain health goals, alleviating specific acute or chronic symptoms, or supporting a treatment protocol set up by an outside licensed practitioner (with a prescription, if applicable) monthly or even weekly for a set amount of time may be helpful. Q: Does it Hurt? A: Nope. Colonic Hydrotherapy isn't supposed to hurt. Please do tell me though, right away if it does. Gas can cause some cramps here and there, but if you do your best to follow the session preparation tips, in *most* cases that will be minimal....and in my experience I have some tricks up my sleeve to help navigate those moments. If your body has a rapid or intense release, you may feel a little queasiness. I can help you if that happens. Yes, there is a speculum that must go into your bottom as part of this treatment. Even that, my friend, can be much less dramatic than you might be imagining. There may be a brief moment of discomfort or pressure which soon subsides, and I will stay attuned to you within that process. Besides my expertise for ease in this regard, I have options for speculum sizes to suit different needs. We can chat about all of this beforehand if there are any other questions or concerns.
